Thoughts on a Cloudy Day

And I say the sacred hoop of my people was one of the many hoops that made one circle, wide as daylight and as starlight, and in the center grew one mighty flowering tree to shelter all the children of one mother and one father.
Black Elk

Remember always,
Everything you say,
Everything you do,
Little eyes are watching you.

(Reba McIntyre remembering a poster that hung in her gym when she was playing basketball. It helped her in later life to remember always that the children are watching us and the things that we say and do maybe inspire or affect a child. If we are to grow as elders, we must take these words to heart and always live our life as an example to those who will follow. Thank you Reba for sharing this with us.)

When you know who you are;
when your mission is clear and you
burn with the inner fire of unbreakable will;
no cold can touch your heart;
no deluge can dampen your purpose.
You know that you are alive.

“There are hundreds of paths up the mountain,
all leading in the same direction,
so it doesn’t matter which path you take.
The only one wasting time is the one
who runs around and around the mountain,
telling everyone else that their path is wrong.”

My pod is a vision of a new way of living. A sharing of ideas on how to live more in harmony with each other and all living things. It is heavy in Native American wisdom as they were the first true ecologists.

Elder's Meditation of the Day - December 3

“Listen to the howl of our spiritual brother, the wolf, for how it goes with him, so it goes for the natural world.”

–Oren R. Lyons, Spokesman, Traditional Circle of Elders

If we watch nature, we can tell a lot about what is going on in the world. The animals and the plants are great teachers. Some time ago, crops were sprayed with a poison to kill the insects. Other animals ate the insects. The small animals were eaten by the Eagles and the Wolves. We live in an interconnected system. What we do to one, we do to all. If our spiritual brothers are living in balance, chances are we humans are also living in balance.

Great Spirit, let me listen to my Earth teachers, the plants and the animals.

If you want to know what a man's like, take a good look at how he treats his inferiors, not his equals. Thinkexist.com Quotations
- Joanne Kathleen Rowling

Indian man walks into a cafe one early morning and noticed that he was the only dark skinned man there. As he sat down, he noticed a white man behind him. The white man said, “Colored people are not allowed here.”

The Indian man turned around and stood up. Then said, “Listen sir…when I was born I was brown,” “When I grew up I was brown,” “When I’m sick I’m brown,” “When I go in the sun I’m brown,” “When I’m cold I’m brown,” “When I die I’ll be brown.” “But you sir, when you’re born you’re pink, when you grow up you’re white, when you’re sick, you’re green, when you go in the sun you turn red. When you’re cold you turn blue. And when you die you turn purple.” “And you have the nerve to call me colored?”

The Indian man then sat back down to enjoy a hot breakfast and the white man walked away…

A warrior is challanged to assume responsibility, practice humility, and display the power of giving, and then center his or her life around a core of spirituality. I challenge todays youth to live like a warrior.”
Billy Mills

Sometimes I go about pitying myself
And all the while I am being carried across the sky
By beautiful clouds.
Ojibway Indian Poem

Thus we see that the all-important thing is not killing or giving life, drinking or not drinking, living in the town or the country, being lucky or unlucky, winning or losing. It is how we win, how we lose, how we live or die; finally, how we choose. We walk, and our religion is shown (even to the dullest and most insensitive person), in how we walk.

Living in this world means choosing, and the way we choose to walk is infallibly and perfectly expressed in the walk itself.

R. H. Blyth
A Navajo Prayer

In beauty may I walk;
With beauty before me, may I walk;
With beauty above me, may I walk;
With beauty below me, may I walk;
With beauty all around me, may I walk;
In beauty, may my walk be finished;
In beauty, may my walk be finished.
Hold On

Hold on to what is good,
Even if it's a handful of earth.
Hold on to what you believe,
Even if it's a tree that stands by itself.
Hold on to what you must do,
Even if it's a long way from here.
Hold on to your life,
Even if it's easier to let go.
Hold on to my hand,
Even if someday I'll be gone away from you.

A Prayer to Earth Mother

Good morning, Earth Mother. I give thanks to you for my life and my journey. I give thanks for the abundance you have provided. I give thanks for the fruits and the vegetables. I give thanks for the nuts and berries. I give thanks for the roots and tubers. I give thanks for the grains and gras…

Is The Time Upon Us?

First of all, let me say that this one may be a little long. For those of you who prefer fortune cookie wisdom, this might not be your cup of tea. I have been accused in the past of being long-winded. The thing is that I feel that what I am writing about is important and I just allow it to flow. If I were to cut it short,… Continue

White Wolf for President! - A Pledge to join forces

I was reading a letter to the people on Calm Eagle's blog.
http://calmeagle.zaadz.com/blog/2007/12/an_open_letter_to_americans
It was a powerful letter of support for Ron Paul. It was also an admonishment to the people that they can no longer sit idly by while those in power usurp their authority. This is a country of the people.… Continue

Contemplating the Blues

I don't know, maybe it is the time shift. I drive in to work in the dark and go home at night in the dark. I barely see the sunlight at all during the week and the weekends haven't been that great. Or maybe I just haven't noticed. I haven't been to the woods in so long. I used to stop on the way to see my kids before the time shift, but now it is… Continue

Year of Unity - Oh one more thing.....

I know I said the last entry was my final entry under the Year of Unity series, but there was something I forgot to write that I was reminded about during my prayers.
Over the past year, I have written many things about coming together as a people, reconnecting with all that is. If you followed along with the reconnecting series, it led you to t… Continue
