In-Fighting
After the Maxxam corporation executed a hostile takeover of Pacific Lumber in the early 1980's, Maxxam CEO Charles Hurwitz split the company into several smaller companies. Pacific Lumber (PL aka Palco) owns the town and sawmills. Scotia Pacific (Scopac) owns the land, writes logging plans and sells logs to PL. Now they're in bankruptcy court and the Judge in the case has ruled that the company will be taken over by Mendocino Redwood Company (MRC). MRC already…

When you factor in food and gas prices, new government numbers today show inflation for June soaring 1.8 percent. Inflation this year is running at the fastest pace in 25 years.
In this Money Alert, Paula Toti says the bite gas and food is taking from our wallets may be even worse than the numbers suggest.

So I have cut ties with the only person I've known the longest, since moving here to Tucson. It's only person I've known before I moved here that leaves this weekend. I will be all alone then. More alone than I've ever been. I hardly know anyone here and the feeling of being miles and miles away from any of my family and friends is sinking in. I have met a few people here. I've made a few friends. It's just they are more like acquaintances.

As it is, the only price I pay is seeing advertising served up with content, so while I am disappointed, I don't feel cheated.

Stuff's afoot and I'm really busy. When will this bankruptcy actually be over? Will it ever? If MRC has to pay $300 million on top of what they already offered it doesn't bode well. It would probably mean a higher rate of logging to pay off the debt.... sounds kind of familiar doesn't it?

Here is a summary breakdown of power generation by type.

In short electricity produced by fossil fuels (coal, gas, oil, etc) is currently 71% of our total power generation. Nuclear power accounts for 19.4%.
According to the web site below (and a few others) we currently have 104 nuclear reactors operating in the US (Oh and BTW a number of them are coming up on the end of their licenses and projected usable time I do believe).

The other purpose is to outline a possible technological method of exploiting that energy resource.
