Working on putting several shallow wells on my property. I have a hand pump that I want to move from well to well when needed. I am lucky that the water table is only 10 to 15 feet. I can hit water with a post-hole digger. I am curious of any experience that someone here may have with shallow wells. I am going to use them (for now) for gardening purposes, also, to get them established for later use in survival. Is it worth running galvanized pipe or can I get away with using 1 1/4" PVC? I want have a stationary mount on each well so that I can move the pump from one location to another. Is this do-able? I am wondering if I should also have a check-valve in the line so that I don't lose the prime of the pump everytime I move it...

lol... I am still working on my first "shallow" well. I am using a hand auger with extensions. I am about 8 ft down. The earth here is solid clay. I dig awhile and then I have to fill the hole with water and wait for the clay to get soft again before digging again. I am in white clay now... maybe that's a good sign. Thinking about making an adobe oven with all of this clay. I found a good one with plans on the internet. Will let you know if that works out.
