Tribe Refugees

because donuts make us sad. wow, 1000 members!

So will/has tribe do/done anything about the deleted accounts?

Anybody got any news on this? I did hear something about Darren and Mark (Pinkus) having a major shouting match which may or may not have something to do with Darren leaving tribe. Remember the story is that after a major server crash in September/October Darren loaded an old backup from June which really screwed the site up for many people! Of course this doesn't explain why many members from before June have had their accounts deleted.

I really do feel sorry for the people that have been pissed about. Seems that there's a bunch of people, not sure how many, that were paying members, and bang, their account is deleted! It's probably very difficult, if not impossible, to insert individual accounts from an old database into the current one so it looks pretty grim.

So some people have lost all their pix, blogs and contacts. Some of these deleted members are also finding it impossible to create a new account.

Well there's certainly some very angry people about and tribe has made a bunch of enemy's. I'm not an enemy of tribe as I balled out before the stench/bullshit got too much. Hey I nearly went for the premium membership although that's only because I wanted the 'exclusive' t-shirt they promised. So I could have been an angry bunny but I'm not.

first of all, Darren still works for Tribe.

second, the new account/mail server problem has been worked on
and seems to be mostly functional

and lastly, i have asked about the unsubbed here:

There's a tribe.net help profile that's become active recently, as well as the TOU GAL profile (was TOU Guy).
There's a Carolyn that has also been helping out. Additionally, Chris, Gary and Marshal have Ts, tho I'm not sure they ever lost theirs when they left Tribe for Cysco. Cheers. Some stuff is getting done I just don't know how much. Communication is still very sparse.

i also think it's really important not to be throwing conjecture around.
it just mucks things up.

Well from what I heard Darren did hand in his resignation but then changed his mind or was talked out of it. Darren then put some spin on the whole event by saying it was the only way he could lever some action out of Pinkus. As far as I know this all happened before the sever crash of October. There was also a rumour that Darren and Mark (Pinkus) had an almighty argument although I can't verify that.

Also worth noting that member accounts were getting deleted before October so god knows what's going on

Tribe.net"
"We fixed the glitch"

Nothing is fixed. I continue to be out of Tribe with no possibility of returning.

LOL
yes Patrick, i am aware of all of that.
i am fairly diligent about keeping up with these things and
all of this info has been posted and discussed in here as
it was happening.

in your OP you wrote:
"I did hear something about Darren and Mark (Pinkus) having a major shouting match which may or may not have something to do with Darren leaving tribe."

first of all, there was no shouting match.
Darren posted on his Twitter that Mark had cursed at him in an e-mail.
that's not me guessing, that's because i saw it
the message read:

Darren wrote:September 11, 2008
"Mark Pincus just cursed at me in email and I sent him back my resignation. My 40th birthday resolution was to stop tolerating verbal abuse."

i can't link to it because it has been deleted, but there are copy/pastes
all over the place from that day.

later he posted this:Tue, October 14, 2008

"As of this writing, it looks like I will not be leaving tribe.net. I can't talk about it now past that, but let's just say that the drastic action I took (resigning) got Mark Pincus' attention and action in a big way. I wouldn't have resigned if I didn't think it would help tribe, and I'm sure all will become clear in the weeks ahead. "

Thanks for the info.
from Tribe:

We do plan to recover whatever lost profiles we can from backup copies of the database once we have finished the hardware migration. Any premium members that lost profiles should definitely make themselves known to us. Send help@tribe.net your old profile's email address and a link to something you posted showing you as "unsubscribed" and note that you were a premium member. We'll figure out compensation and move the subscription to your new profile if that hasn't been done.
