Tribe Refugees

because donuts make us sad. wow, 1000 members!

When I was out of the country, I was no longer able to access tribe.net, and now two weeks later I get nothing but an error message when I try to log in. Have I been unsubscribed without notice? It sure seems that way, but it would have been better form to let me know the reason, if indeed there is one!

If you get the same error message when you try to look at any tribe page it may be that your IP is blocked! Easy to check this by just logging in from a different location. Another more likely possibility is that your browser cache needs clearing as this has always caused log-in problems at tribe.

Of course there was some story about the server crashing in September / October time and Darren uploading the wrong backup!! Consequently people that had registered after June were no longer in the database. I think a more up-to-date backup may have been upload but I think this has caused quite a bit of chaos for tribe members. Basically it's just getting beyond shoddy over there.

There's also been some propaganda / bullshit-story created to try and instil confidence in members. Read here: http://triberefugees.ning.com/forum/topics/tribe-announcement

I had been registered for several years, so I am dubious about a server crash, and I was unable to log in in October when I was abroad...

So do you think you've done something to get yourself un-subscribed?

If you are getting a page that says:
[snip/]
An error has occurred

what were you doing when this error occurred?
If you're seeing this page, it means that something has gone wrong on our end.

Sorry about that. Please take a moment to help us fix this problem by giving us a brief description of what you were doing when this error occurred.
[/snip]

This could mean your IP has been blocked! Have you tried logging in from a different location?

Yes, that's the message I get consistently. I will try from another location and see.

it's not about blocking IP's, Patrick.

After some experimentation I have proven my hypothesis that the problems are related to the damaged databases -- depending upon the problem, people's entries in the databases have no corresponding entry in either the password file, the bio database, or the plugins databases.

This is easy to fix on a case by case basis, but there are so many complaints that I am writing a script to fix the approximately 15,000 profiles affected by these problems. This is my main focus for this weekend -- email is secondary but will be worked on as well.

Carolyn, a new person at tribe has asked:
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Can you send an email to help@tribe.net with the email address of your profile that's missing? That would help immensely.

Try again David and let us know what happens. Apparently you can also email darren@tribe.net

I wrote once more to darren and help. I am not holding my breath.
I did manage to log in from another location and create a new account BUT I still can't get in from my old computer, so maybe I have been IP blocked AND my account deleted? What can I do about it??
