One thing that may be interesting, if it is true that they are negotiating a sale of tribe, is whether or not membership will still be free.

it has to remain free. The only people willing to pay were the 1500 desperate addict or true believers. How will they sucker in any new subscribing members, after we have all seen that they never made any of the improvemetnts they promised with our money over the past year?
In other words, how do you sucker the same crowd twice with the same sucker game twice? Hard to do.
They'd have to offer something new. Hard to imagine how a subscription based model will work when there are so many free alternatives.

There is no buyer who just wants to continue the status quo, unless there is some member who just want to save tribe for personal reasons.
From a business standpoint, it is a bad investment unless it is being sold dirt cheap. It might have had some value before, but not now when the site is broken.
I suggest that the McCain Pailin campaign buy it and try to use its access to 500,000 Californians to retake California for the Republican party in 2008!
