While Tribe.net has "tribes", Ning has "Groups". Groups are subdivisions of this site, specialized discussion groups. And like tribes, each Group has its own mini-forum. You can use the Groups feature to re-create your favorite tribes.private tribes
Like Tribe.net's tribes, Ning allows you designate your Group as private, with membership being either upon request or by invite only.view all tribes with one profile
On Ning you can view all the Groups within a single network using the one profile for that network. Your Tribe Refugees profile allows you to view all Groups in this network.invite friends to tribes
Like Tribe.net, Ning allows you to invite people to join your Group, whether they're a friend, a fellow member, or someone outside the network.photo albums for tribes
While Ning doesn't offer a photo album nested in the Groups themselves, it's easy to make a photo album for a Group. That photo album can then be linked to on the Group's home page.FRIENDS

Like Tribe.net, Ning lets users customize the look (skin) of their profile. However, Ning's skin customization is much more robust. Ning does not yet offer the ability to move profile modules around, but this feature should be available in the next Ning release.add profile content
Ning has a module for your own content, similar to Tribe.net's "free text" module. However, Ning's module acts as a catch-all box that allows you to more than just text. See my profile for an example.Tags: blogs, faq, groups, help, mft, new member, ning, photos, profile, tribe
